Welcome to Odyssey Wines

Rebecca Salmond is a winemaker who first studied Biotechnology in New Zealand then went onto complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Winemaking Science at Roseworthy College in Australia. Rebecca then travelled and worked extensively throughout many winemaking regions of the world.

Rebecca initiated Odyssey in 1994 with small amounts of premium Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Since then the company has successfully expanded to satisfy demand in both the local and export markets.

In 2008, 75 tonnes of grapes were harvested to produce a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Pinot Noir Rose as well as two styles of Gisborne Chardonnay.

New Zealand's wine growing regions span latitudes of 1000 miles, and with the wide range of climatic and soil types produces wines of great diversity in style.

It is a firm belief of Rebecca Salmond that the various grape varieties excel in the different wine regions of New Zealand. Hence fruit is selected from Marlborough, and Gisborne to ensure that the most optimum fruit quality is obtained, for the particular wine style sought. All the wines are from single vineyard sites.

Odyssey owns 68 acres of land in Marlborough and with meticulous attention to detail, and careful planning in the vineyard the fruit arrives at the winery in the best condition. The winemaking philosophy is then to assist the wine in realising its potential by making only subtle adjustments, and using where appropriate the finest oaks.

Odyssey is committed to making approachable, good quality and well-priced wines under the Odyssey Brand. The Reserve wines are made only in great vintages and are marketed under the Odyssey Iliad Reserve label. These Reserve wines show exceptional character and finesse, and are destined to age well and to reward the connoisseur.

Odyssey produces 6000 cases of wine per year and exports its wines to America, Thailand, Canada and Spain. Her company has won a number of accolades and has been highly awarded for its wines.

Odyssey Wines modestly derives its name from Homer's great story 'The Odyssey'. Rebecca's voyage through wine and its regions of the world, her experiences and learning gained in pursuit of the ultimate dream of creating her own wine and winery are synonymous in some respect to this great story.
