The Odyssey Own Marlborough Vineyard is ideal for producing top quality wines, as well as being picturesque. It is one of the more elevated vineyards in Marlborough with a North easterly aspect. Soil is permeable silt loam over clay with an impermeable pan at 1m. Annual rainfall is less than 650mm. A dam captures the winter rain for irrigation over the summer. On occasion strong south westerly winds blow through the vineyard just the thing for disease control. The vineyard has been managed organically for many years and is certified with Biogro certification. The vineyard grows Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir.

The spacings are close, and Rebecca and her team do all pruning, vine work and harvesting by hand. There are six different Dijon clones in the Pinot Noir, four clonal variants in the Pinot Gris and two in the Sauvignon Blanc. Different clones perform better under different vintages and seasons. Each clone is harvested seperately and fermented on its own to give more blending options. A flock of our own sheep grazes the vineyard, putting paid to heavy machinery compacting the soil. The sheep are our resident weed eaters.
